More about this book!

The library catalogue now provides even more information about the books it lists. When you find a book on the catalogue you may now also be able to view an image of its cover, read a summary and view its table of contents.

When you look at a catalogue record for a book you should see a 'More about this book?' button at the top of the page. Click on this button to read a summary of the book, view an image of the cover and look at the table of contents.

For example, see the catalogue record for 'Evolutionary Psychology : a beginners guide by Louise Barrett et al'.

Hold down the Ctrl key (to temporarily disable pop up blocking) and click on the 'More about this book button?' You should be able to view the cover image, read a summary of the book or look at the table of contents.

We hope this will help you to find more useful books more easily!!

If you want more information or have any questions about this please contact your Subject Librarian.

Over 31,000 e-books now available!

The ebrary Academic Complete collection of over 31,000 e-books is now available to all members of the University.

To read ebrary e-books you must install ebrary Reader:

  • On a Managed Windows Service PC on campus, just choose Start -> Install -> Viewers -> Ebrary Reader
  • On a PC elsewhere, download ebrary Reader. It is available for a variety of web browsers on both Windows and Macintosh computers.
You can search the full-text of all of the titles available to us on ebrary, or browse or search specific fields (e.g. title, author) to find books in your chosen area.

You can register to create a personal ebrary account which will allow you to create a personal bookshelf, and add highlights, annotations and bookmarks.

You will find ebrary:

  • On the Library's e-books web page
  • On the Library's databases web pages under General, Key Databases, and EVERY subject
  • Very soon each e-book will have a catalogue record in the Library catalogue with a link to the e-book

New to the University?

If you are an undergraduate student and new to the University we recommend that you come along to one of our library induction events. The purpose of these events is to get you up and running and using the library as quickly as possible.

Library induction lasts approximately 30 minutes and are offered daily beween Wednesday 20th September and Tues 3rd October.

A timetable is available to help you plan when to come along.

If you can't come along to one of these sessions but would like to find out more about the library please contact David Clay.

Wiley Journals - RSS feeds available

All Wiley journals now have RSS feeds making it easy for you keep up-to-date with their contents.

RSS feeds allow you to bring together the latest tables of contents (TOCs) for your favourite journals into your own personal web page or software tool.

The RSS feeds for journal tables of contents page on the library web site provides information about journals that have RSS feeds and how to subscribe to them.

If you have any questions about RSS feeds please ask your Subject Librarian.

Tips for Athens Login

  1. Set this cookie on your PC to tell Athens that you are a member of the University of Liverpool.

Once you have set this cookie, whenever you try to access another Athens Login page, you will automatically be redirected to the University of Liverpool's Athens login page. This is most useful if you usually use the same PC (either on- or off-campus). If you normally use University PC Centres then you will need to set the cookie every time you use a different PC.

  2. If you have administrator rights to your PC, install the Athens Toolbar for Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Used in conjunction with the Athens cookie (above) this gives you:

    • a permanent link to our Athens login page
    • a permanent indication of whether you are logged in to Athens
    • when you are logged in, links to all Athens-authenticated resources
  3. You need only log in to Athens once in a session. All subsequent logins to Athens-authenticated resources will be automatic. You will still need to click on an Athens login link or button in the following resources, but you won't need to type in your username and password again:
Blackwell Synergy - BMJ Journals - British Standards Online - All Census resources, Digimap - Extenza - Info4Education - all MIMAS resources - Mintel - Oxford English Dictionary - Sage Publications - ScienceDirect - Scopus.
  4. You will remain logged in to Athens for the duration of the time that you are logged in to that machine or until it times out (after 8 hours).
  5. If you need to open a new browser window, you should use File, New, Window (or Ctrl+N) in an existing browser window. If instead you launch a completely new Internet Explorer, you will not be logged in to Athens in that window.
  6. The first time you use ScienceDirect, Scopus or Mintel with Athens, you have to fill in a registration form. This creates a 'hidden' account on that service, tied to your university account.
For more information of if you have any questions about Athens, or using resources from off campus contact your Subject Librarian.
