The
Darwin Correspondence Project was founded in 1974 with the aim of locating, researching and publishing the complete letters of Charles Darwin. Following a pilot project, the remit was further extended and now also includes letters written to
Darwin.
The
Darwin Correspondence Project’s archive of letters is now fully available online. The website features a full-text
searchable database of over 9,000 letters and provides a comprehensive overview of
Darwin’s correspondence. New letters continue to be discovered and are regularly added to the database.
The website also includes a content area looking in detail at
Darwin and religion, giving valuable insight into the ongoing debate surrounding creation and evolution. Towards the end of this month a second content area covering
Darwin and science will become available looking critically at
Darwin’s scientific attitudes and ideas.
